Portrait of Marilyne Andersen (LIPID) in Hochparterre magazine

In its article entitled "Madame Lumière", the magazine Hochparterre describes Prof. Marilyne Andersen’s field of expertise - daylight - as well as her background.

We (re)discover the importance of daylight in its many facets, from its ability to connect with the passage of time and the weather conditions, to its psycho-physiological impacts through both visual and non-visual processes, and its omnipresence in what makes a space essentially human: at the same time variable, warm and complex. In particular, it explains the development of a portable sensor prototype recording spectral properties of light exposure, a project supported by Innosuisse, together with other ongoing projects on comfort and human well-being related to daylight. It also mentions her role as academic director of the Smart Living Lab on the Bluefactory site, where we the NeighborHub serves its intended purpose after its victory at the U.S. Solar Decathlon 2017 student competition conducted under her aegis. The article further mentions the SKIL program, which encourages EPFL students to build prototypes themselves, her teaching role in Singapore last year and the creation, with two of her former doctoral students, of the start-up OCULIGHT dynamics, which offers specialized daylight consulting services and provides guidance in architectural projects. It also cites her role in the LafargeHolcim Foundation, which promotes sustainable construction on a global scale, whose Board she joined in 2015 and whose Academic Committee she heads since the beginning of this year.
