HOBEL was delighted to take part in the first general assembly of the RENOMIZE EU Horizon project, hosted at EnergyVille in Belgium. RENOMIZE (Renovation with Automation and Optimization of Processes and Products) seeks to transform building renovation practices through advanced automation, prefabrication, and digital process optimization.

The project introduces a fully integrated renovation approach spanning the entire lifecycle—from assessment and planning to implementation, maintenance, and end-of-life deconstruction. Its innovations aim to reduce renovation time and costs by more than 25%. Key developments include:
Digital decision-support tools
Advanced spatiotemporal planning systems
Modular façade and HVAC integration solutions
Improved anchoring systems and self-positioning robotic units for faster, non-sequential, and potentially autonomous panel installations
RENOMIZE also explores factory automation to enhance the quality and scalability of prefabricated renovation elements. Pilot renovations will be carried out in four demonstration buildings across Europe.
Within the project, HOBEL is responsible for evaluating the impact of these innovations on indoor environmental quality (IEQ) and ventilation. This work will combine longitudinal measurements of IEQ, occupancy, and ventilation practices with occupant surveys to capture perceptions, experiences, and behaviours—bringing valuable human context to the technical findings.
