The Swiss Cancer Research Foundation and the Swiss National Science Foundation offer two funding programmes to support the research projects in the health services and clinical studies. Focus on these opportunities.

Health Services Research in Oncology and Cancer Care

Within the framework of the National Strategy against Cancer 2014-2017, the Swiss Cancer Research Foundation supported by the ACCENTUS Foundation (Marlies Engeler Fund) is launching a programme call for research grants to strengthen health services research in oncology and cancer care.

Up to 4 research projects (max. 250 000.- Swiss francs) and 3 to 5 smaller projects aiming at the development of ideas (max. 75 000.- Swiss francs) will receive funding amounting to a total support of 1 million Swiss francs.

The programme is open to researchers at universities, research institutions, hospitals, research and consulting agencies, and health service providers in Switzerland. Applicants are invited to submit a pre-proposal for a research project on or before 15 September 2016. After review by an international scientific jury, selected investigators will be invited to submit a full application on or before 15 November 2016.

Investigator initiated clinical trials (IICT)

The special programme for Investigator Initiated Clinical Trials (IICTs) of the SNSF supports independent clinical studies. The call is limited to prospective, randomised, controlled, interventional, multicentric studies of new or existing treatments on topics that are not in the industry focus and therefore insufficiently researched. This may comprise studies on rare illnesses, paediatric illnesses, therapy combinations and rehabilitation measures as well as dosage reduction studies, surgical studies, and effectiveness studies on new diagnostic or risk-stratified treatment strategies. The studies are required to be of high clinical relevance and public importance.

The SNSF has a budget of CHF 10 million for the 2016 call. This should be sufficient to fund at least four studies.

The submission deadline of letter of intent is September 1, 2016. The submission of applications deadline is November 1, 2016.
