The European Physical Society (EPS) has awarded Hatice Altug (EPFL School of Engineering) its Distinction established to shine the spotlight on noteworthy women physicists and to identify role models that will help to attract women to a career in physics.

Hatice Altug, physicist and Full Professor at the Institute of Bioengineering, has received the European Physical Society's biannual Emmy Noether Distinction for Women in Physics "for her seminal contributions to light-matter interaction at the nanoscale, manipulation of light on-chip and application of nanophotonics in biology, and her inspiring role for the next generation of researchers and women" (quoted from the official announcement).

Hatice Altug, who is leading the BIOnanophotonic Systems Laboratory (BIOS), is working with her team on next-generation biosensors, spectroscopy and bioimaging technologies. Her lab is also developing new nanodevices capable of measuring biomolecules, pathogens and living systems.
