Party organizers finally have a neutral friend, which helps them in the difficult choice of which music to play. GroupStreamer is a smartphone app that serves as a mediator between organizers, DJ and guests.

At the origin of this ambitious and creative project is Lucas Maystre, 23 years old and student in the Communication Systems section. He designed and developed this tool from A to Z for his Master project. He presented GroupStreamer during the last Research Day of the School of Computer & Communication Sciences where he was spotted by journalists.

GroupStreamer helps you finding a consensus in terms of musical tastes. The main idea? Have the majority of the party animals hear the music they prefer. The parties where few "chosen" monopolize the playlist are over!

How does it work?
Once the app is installed, the DJ creates a group and invites other guests to join it. Each participant's playlist is scanned. The tool analyses every song and keep the ones that appear more often. In addition to the musical libraries, GroupStreamer also uses key words from each song collected with the help of last.fm.
To enable this technological performance, Lucas had to rack his brain to create the perfect algorithm. "Thanks to the key words generated by last.fm, I can create a spatial representation of the music with two big axes like the music kind (ex. electronic music) and the period (70's)," explains Lucas.

He confides: "Thanks to this sudden media coverage, I got lots of feedbacks. After spending four months on the app, I had the feeling I had tried every possibilities. But one week after this public presentation I had received tons of new ideas to develop! It is always interesting to see how people use the app and to receive comments".

GroupStreamer is now available for free on Google Play and has already been downloaded more than 300 times.
