Satellite Positioning Performance Assessment for Road Transport
SaPPART - COST Action TU 1302

A new COST (TU 1302 ) Action on satellite positioning for road transport and mobility has started in December 2013 with the involvement of the Geodetic Eng. Laboratory (EPFL-TOPO). Pierre-Yves Gilliéron has been appointed Vice Chair of the Action. The full name of the Action is " Satellite Positioning Performance Assessment for Road Transport " (SaPPART) and count already more than 12 European participating countries. This Action is part of the Transport and Urban Developement domain (TUD).
This Action fits at the interface of research activity and standardization work in the field of satellite navigation (GNSS) applied to road transport. Using navigation systems, such as Galileo and GPS, for the contribution to transport safety and road pricing is a challenge that must pass through stages of standardization and certification of future GNSS terminals to be installed in vehicles. SaPPART will bring together key players in research, public sector, industry and standardization bodies to encourage discussions on this topic.
The SaPPART Action will be presented at the Transport Research Arena conference in Paris in April and during the ITS Europe conference in Helsinki in June. Special sessions are planned on this subject and will be led by members of the Action .
