The Doctoral School is pleased to announce the participation of three outstanding EPFL doctoral candidates - Melanie Johanning (EDCH), Gloria Porro (EDMI), and Tobias Borgmeyer (EDCE) - at the Global Young Scientists Summit (GYSS) 2024, held in Singapore from January 8 to 12, 2024.

The GYSS is an annual multidisciplinary summit that brings together leading scientists and young researchers to foster exchanges between scientists of different generations, cultures and disciplines. Speakers, including Nobel Prize, Fields Medal, Millennium Technology Prize and Turing Award winners, as well as other eminent scientists, engage in dialogue with participants from all over the world.

The Summit offered a series of activities, including live plenary lectures, panel discussions, Q&A sessions, and networking platforms. Additionally, participants had the opportunity to participate in small group informal sessions with their pre-selected speaker(s), present their research through on-stage presentations and poster sessions, and visit higher education institutions and other prominent landmarks in Singapore.

EPFL has been invited to nominate up to 3 participants to represent EPFL at the GYSS 2024 onsite in Singapore. The 3 PhD candidates has been selected by the EPFL Research Awards Commission based on excellence in research, motivation, potential for global collaboration, and representation of EPFL's diverse research landscape. Their participation in the summit was co-financed by the Doctoral School.

As our doctoral candidates return with enriched experiences, an expanded network and a wealth of knowledge, the Doctoral School continues to support and encourage PhD candidates to participate in such global platforms, which not only enhance their academic profile, but also contribute to EPFL's overall reputation on the world stage.
