Generative AI in Education – Workshop Highlights

© 2025 EPFL
Yesterday, we hosted a dynamic and hands-on workshop exploring how generative AI can enhance teaching and learning. The session drew a diverse group of participants eager to dive into practical tools, discuss emerging challenges, and reflect on the ethical implications of AI in the classroom.
We kicked off by sharing recent survey results: 79% of students report using AI tools in their studies, and 86% of instructors expressed a strong interest in incorporating AI into their teaching practices. This clearly points to a growing need for guidance, support, and thoughtful integration of AI technologies.
Throughout the workshop, participants engaged with a series of hands-on activities such as:
- Crafting effective prompts
- Creating teaching materials using aiaiapps.epfl.ch
- Experimenting with retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) using NotebookLM
- We also showcased chatbot tools, including EPFLGraph and a prototype chatbot for EdDiscussion, demonstrating their potential to support interaction and content navigation in educational contexts.
A critical part of the session was our discussion on the ethical dimensions of AI in education. This included assessing the risks associated with various tools, and reinforcing the importance of responsible AI use.
We thank everyone who participated for their curiosity, insights, and collaborative spirit.
Our next workshop on 19 June 2025 is already full—but don’t worry! Registration is now open for the following session on 3 July 2025.
