Frank Bonnet, a post-doc researcher in the Robotic Systems Laboratory in STI, has won the 2018 George Girault PhD Award. The award was also presented to Daniel Leidner of Germany.

Frank Bonnet was part of a research team that developed a miniature robot that can integrate perfectly into schools of zebrafish. The findings of their research were published in Bioinspiration & Biomimetics.

euRobotics yearly gives the Georges Giralt PhD Award at the European Robotics Forum to recognise great work of Ph.D. students in our community. The aim of the "Georges Giralt Ph.D. Award" is to showcase PhD theses defended in European universities from all areas of robotics. Outstanding theses with strong theoretical contributions, a focus on professional applications or technology transfer, with a high degree of multidisciplinarity, or showing how robotics technologies can be applied to new domains, are eligible for the prize.

The announcement of the winners for both editions of 2017 and 2018 for this prestigious prize took place during the European Robotics Forum Banquet Dinner in Tampere, Finland, on March 14, 2018.
