Four ERC Synergy Grants awarded to EPFL researchers
The European Research Council (ERC) awarded four "ERC Synergy Grants" to EPFL researchers. This prestigious funding scheme supports collaborative, international and interdisciplinary research projects, as part of the Horizon Europe programme.
Congratulations to Edoardo Charbon (STI), Tobias Kippenberg (SB/STI), Andras Kis (STI), and John McKinney (SV)!
The ERC received 548 proposals and selected 57 for the total funding of €571M, to address some of the most complex scientific problems, covering a wide range of disciplines. The ERC Synergy Grants foster collaboration between outstanding researchers, enabling them to combine their expertise, knowledge and resources to push the boundaries of scientific discovery. This funding is part of the EU’s Horizon Europe research and innovation programme.
The following EPFL researchers have been awarded, along with their collaborators:
- Edoardo Charbon: "Smart Detectors for Darkfield X-ray Imaging"
- Tobias Kippenberg: "Active Hybrid Photonic Integrated Circuits for Ultra-Efficient Electro-Optic Conversion and Signal Processing"
- Andras Kis: "SKIN-like TWO-Dimensional materials-based elecTRONICS conformable to rough surfaces"
- John McKinney: "Central roles of mycobacterial type VII secretion systems in intra- and inter-kingdom warfare"
