Organized jointly by the Ecoparc Association and the Laboratory of Architecture and Sustainable Technologies (LAST), the Forum des transitions urbaines gathered more than 120 participants on September 3 in the Microcity auditorium of the EPFL campus in Neuchâtel (Switzerland). Entitled “Réinventer les rives urbaines?”, the event enabled participants to discover a wealth of projects, studies and developments underway in urban territories in transition.

In the context of the fight against urban sprawl, the protection of the landscape, the climate change adaptations and the evolution of the place of water in the city, urban banks are proving to be strategic for the transition of urban territories towards sustainability. Beyond the questions inherent to the technical and territorial measures, multiple landscape, urbanistic and architectural issues challenge the projectual approach to adopt for the regeneration of this type of site. Throughout the day, the conferences offered participants a richoverview of key issues, innovative approaches and pioneering experiences :

  • Emmanuel Rey, head of the LAST and partner of the Bauart office, opened the day by underlining both the historical roots and the great actuality that the evolution of urban shores represents.
  • Frédéric Bonnet, partner and founder of the Obras agency in Paris and Bourg-en-Bresse, presented the work carried out in Nantes, aimed at reconciling defense against hazards and urban dynamics.
  • Olga Bolshanina, from Herzog & de Meuron, presented the urban project Ronquoz in Sion, the urban regeneration of the Badaevskiy Brewery in the heart of Moscow and the competition for the Tuchkov Buyan Park in Saint Petersburg.
  • Amélie Noury, from the Atelier Parisien d'Urbanisme (APUR), explained how the activities of the Atelier Seine promote the emergence of a common vision and shared dynamics around the Seine site.
  • Bertrand Vignal, partner and founder of the BASE agency in Lyon, detailed the notion of "geo-narrative" within the framework of the territorial approach installing the climatic framework and the endemic public spaces of the 3rd correction of the Rhône in Switzerland.
  • Nicolas Michelin, Founder of the ANMA agency in Paris, detailed the steps of the reconversion of the Bassins à Flot in Bordeaux.
  • Brigitte Philippon, associate architect of the Philippon-Kalt agency in Paris, presented the "écoquartier fluvial" of L'Ile-Saint-Denis.
  • Sara Formery, doctoral assistant at the LAST, detailed her doctoral research on rhodanian neighborhoods in transition, carried out as part of the Rhodanie urbaine project.

As a biennial event, the Forum des transitions urbaines thus pursues its objective of promoting knowledge transfer and exchange between people from different backgrounds, particularly from the academic world, the public domain and the private sector.
