IC School represented EPFL as Switzerland took center stage at CeBIT 2016, as the partner country of the year, showcasing innovations of information and communication technology in Hanover, Germany last week.

CeBIT, which has over 3300 exhibitors from 70 countries, is one of the largest and most prominent international ICT trade fairs providing a platform for exchange for businesses, research institutes and universities in the sector. This year, both German Chancellor Angela Merkel and President Johann Schneider-Ammann visited the Swiss Pavilion during CeBIT - where digitization was the buzzword of the business, political and social agendas.

The IC School booth, in the 2,700 m2 Swiss Pavilion, highlighted two innovative EPFL spin-offs. Cyberhaven, originated from IC Professor George Candea’s Dependable Systems Laboratory, showcased security solutions to identify and prevent the exploitation of zero-day vulnerabilities in applications.

Smartcardia, initiated by the Embedded Systems Laboratory of Professor David Atienza of the School of Engineering, presented a medical device and cloud technology solution for monitoring physical and emotional health.

IC School Dean James Larus and ETHZ President Lino Guzzella were among the Swiss delegation highlighting the importance of the ICT sector in Europe to the Swiss Federal Institutes of Technology. The representatives of the two institutes also emphasized the closeness of ties between their respective institutions.

“At the heart of Europe, both EPFL and ETHZ have a great opportunity to leverage their unique position and expertise in the field of computer and communication sciences," emphasized Dean James Larus. "We have a long history of cooperation with many European institutions and aim to further strengthen our research collaboration and promote academic mobility in the region.”
