Five members of the school of engineering listed as highly cited

Five researchers from the School of Engineering appear on the Web of Science’s 2019 Highly Cited Researchers list 2019.
Each year, The Web of Science Group, a Clarivate Analytics company releases an annual list of the most influent researchers in the world. The highly anticipated list identifies scientists and social scientists who produced multiple papers ranking in the top 1% by citations for their field and year of publication, demonstrating significant research influence among their peers.
The papers are categorized in one or more of 21 main subject fields the Essential Science Indicators (ESI), which forms a database of emerging science trends in various fields of research used by policymakers, government agencies, universities, corporations, recruiters, the press and others.
This year, the Highly Cited Researchers list includes 24 EPFL scientists, 5 of which are from the School of Engineering:
- Christophe Ballif (Microengineering)
- Andras Kis (Electrical Engineering)
- Tobias J. Kippenberg (Electrical Engineering - STI / SB)
- Nicola Marzari (Materials Science and Engineering)
- Ali H. Sayed (Electrical Engineering)
The methodology that determines the “who’s who” of influential researchers draws on the data and analysis performed by bibliometric experts from the Institute for Scientific Information at the Web of Science Group.
