The final reviews of Prof. Emmanuel Rey's studio took place in early June at the Ecole polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne. It was an opportunity to discover the intense, original and fruitful work of some thirty students who worked on the design of a new river neighborhood on one of the industrial sites of the Grand Lyon. The experts invited on this occasion were Pierre Bonnet, architect in Geneva, and Sandra Maccagnan, architect in Bex.

Prof. Emmanuel Rey’s studio, entitled "Rhodanie urbaine", explores during four years the issues related to the creation of a new fluvial neighborhood. The approach focuses more particularly on designing – from the urban project to the constructive detail – a dense, mixed, and interconnected neighborhood in the vicinity of the Rhône.

The chosen site for this academic year 2020-2021 constituted a field of investigation particularly suited to such an exploratory approach. This is an industrial sector of Givors, in the southern part of the Grand Lyon, which has significant potential for development with a view to urban regeneration and, more broadly, to transition to sustainability.

This exploratory work – developed from the urban project down to constructive detail – allowed the students not only to continue their learning of the inherent processes in the architectural project but also to bring out various concrete or utopian visions that could be envisaged for such a change.
