Infinity Room 2, the second chapter of a two-part exhibition at ArtLab in honor of EPFL’s 50th anniversary this year, will offer visitors an immersive and augmented experience of the school’s photographic, academic, cultural, and architectural history.
Infinity Room 2 will run from September 13th, 2019 until January 26th, 2020, with its opening weekend falling during the EPFL Open Days. The immersive exhibition will allow visitors to use the cutting-edge technology of today and tomorrow – including interactive installations, augmented reality and full-dome projections – for a unique experience of EPFL’s past and evolution.
Eight installations
As with Infinity Room I, the first part of the exhibition that ran from April 12th to July 28th, Infinity Room 2 embraces the theme of infinitude, or ideas without bounds. While the first instalment was structured around the photographic works of three professional photographers, who captured the campus from three different artistic perspectives, this fall’s exhibition will comprise eight installations.
These will include interactive presentations of the campus’s construction, starting with the ground-breaking in 1974; over 500,000 images taken by campus photographer Alain Herzog; an immersive display of the campus publications EPFL Magazine and Flash; and an interactive visualization of EPFL PhD theses through time. Other displays will include an exploration of the famous Balelec festival over the years; a breathtaking array of drones, from foldable delivery devices to bioinspired quadcopters; augmented storage lockers displaying an eclectic collection of scientific objects; and finally, immersive fulldome presentations of the historic Montreux Jazz archive and the Blue Brain Project.
