The project begins by understanding the building : defining its existence, its character, its potential ; then continues to a deeper analysis, a careful inspection, a real examination. This requires an expertise in ad hoc project methods and strategies, based on appropriate historical-critical tools and methods.

The " Critical Encyclopedia for the Renovation and Restoration of 20th century Architecture " systematically explores knowledge related to modern and contemporary buildings. Designed as an inventory-multidisciplinary, accessible and open to including progressive additions- the project is a tool for understanding and a practical support for architectural practice and education. This research is based upon a collaboration between Swiss architectural schools, and the teaching support that it produces is a top priority.
