On May 28 to 29, 2019, the architectural design studios of the Ecole polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) opened their doors to the public. Entitled " Ubiquitous Exhibition – Do Make Think ", this event was conceived as a simultaneous exhibition of each design studio work during the past academic year. In this context, the studio of Prof. Emmanuel Rey presented the work carried out at different scales on the theme of the creation of a new fluvial neighborhood in Sion.

The exhibition not only allowed to discover the students' work but also to understand the centers of interest of each studio as well as their different didactical and methodological approaches.

Prof. Emmanuel Rey’s studio, entitled « Rhodanie urbaine», explored this year the issues related to the creation of a new fluvial neighborhood. The approach focuses more particularly on designing - from the urban project to the constructive detail - a new urban neighborhood - dense, mixed, and interconnected - in the immediate vicinity of the Rhône.

The chosen site for this academic year 2018-2019 constituted a field of investigation particularly suited to such an exploratory approach. Crossed by the Rhone, it is a portion of territory extending between the station and the highway in the southern part of the city of Sion. Benefiting from the impetus given by the creation of the Energypolis campus, which hosts the Valais branch of EPFL, this strategic area is set to undergo a major change in the coming decades.
