Exhibition at Yverdon-les-Bains
The Urban Planning and Building Department of Yverdon-les-Bains invited the Laboratory of Architecture and Sustainable Technologies (LAST) to present a selection of student projects as part of a public exhibition of the Railway station - Lake area master plan (PDL). Entitled URBAN LAKESIDE, the installation shows various visions developed during the 2012-2013 edition of Prof. Emmanuel Rey's studio by illustrating the potential of this strategic site.
Through an approach at different levels of intervention – from urban design to constructive detail – Prof. Emmanuel Rey's studio aims to analyze, explore and experiment issues specific to an architectural contribution to sustainable city. In a context questioning urban sprawl, urban wastelands represent a particularly interesting potential of areas to reorient urban development inside cities. Often situated on strategic places, they present the advantage of already being connected to technical networks and to public and private transport servicing. They represent an opportunity to revitalize portions of cities or towns waiting for new outcomes.
The site chosen for the 2012-2013 and 2013-2014 editions is a particularly representative field of investigation for these issues : the sector situated between the railway station of Yverdon-les-Bains and the shores of the lake Neuchâtel. After a regeneration process, this portion of the city is likely to welcome more than 3'000 inhabitants on the long run and 1'500 jobs. The creation of an architectural design studio on this strategic sector allows exploring and visualizing the multiplicity of urban forms and possible built configurations for this area.
Halfway to this academic process, the Urban Planning and Building Department of Yverdon-les-Bains invited the LAST to present a selection of student projects in the frame of the public exhibition of the PDL. The exhibition is open to the public from 21st August to 20th September 2013 (7:30 a.m. – 12 noon and 1:30 p.m. – 5 p.m.) in the hall "Les Pas Perdus", 2nd floor of the City Hall, Place Pestalozzi 1 at Yverdon-les-Bains.
