Dr. Evgenii Kanin joined the Geo-Energy Lab in January 2025 as a postdoctoral scientist. His research focuses on developing a finite-element model for variably saturated poroelastic media to simulate laboratory hydraulic fracturing experiments.
Evgenii obtained his BSc (2016) and MSc (2018) in applied physics and mathematics from Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology and MSc in petroleum engineering from Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology (Skoltech) in 2019. He completed his PhD in fluid mechanics at Moscow State University in 2023, defending the dissertation “Asymptotic Models of Mass Transfer in the Problem of Hydraulic Fracture Growth”.
Before joining GEL, Evgenii worked as a research scientist at the Project Center for Energy Transition and ESG at Skoltech, conducting research on decarbonization and energy transition. His research interests include fluid mechanics, geomechanics, hydraulic fracture mechanics, CO₂ sequestration and geothermal energy.
