EUROTECH universities launch international call for top talent

Brussels, 21 September - The launch of the EuroTechPostdoc Programme was announced last night at the annual event of the EuroTech Universities Alliance. The programme provides unique international research and career development opportunities for 80 high potential doctoral graduates who will be recruited by four leading European universities of science and technology. The EuroTechPostdoc Programme is one of the first cross-country fellowship programmes co-funded by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 programme. *
The four universities of the EuroTech Universities Alliance – Technical University of Denmark (DTU), Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) and Technical University of Munich (TUM) – will grant fellowships to doctoral graduates who have already demonstrated excellence and potential in their field of research. The programme will give access to the research expertise and infrastructures across the EuroTech Universities and will offer entrepreneurship and mobility opportunities for fellows in the academic and non-academic sector.
What is unique about the EuroTechPostdoc Programme is that it will give young researchers access to our four universities’ high-tech eco-systems. Through the Alliance, we collaborate with one another to ensure that excellent research leads to excellent innovation, said Jan Mengelers, President of the EuroTech Universities Alliance, at the annual High Level Event in Brussels. According to Mengelers, this framework for collaboration will contribute to Europe’s goal of achieving greater impact from its research.
The first call for applications of the EuroTechPostdoc Programme will open on 30 November 2017, with a deadline of 28 February 2018. Doctoral graduates can apply within one of the five interdisciplinary focus areas of the EuroTech Universities Alliance:
- Health & Bio Engineering
- Smart & Urban Mobility
- Data Science & Engineering
- High Performance Computing
- Entrepreneurship & Innovation
Yesterday’s High Level Event fostered a promising discussion on the future of European research and innovation and the role of universities in addressing the EU’s innovation challenge. The event featured a panel discussion with Robert-Jan Smits, Director-General for Research and Innovation at the European Commission, as well as with scientists and university management. Funding programmes such as the EU’s Framework Programme and multi-beneficiary cross-border career programmes are fundamental in securing Europe’s leading position in science and technology.
