ESO hosted large delegation from Leibniz Universität Hannover
Environmental Sensing Observatory (ESO) organised a research seminar and lab visit for the staff and students of Geomatics Engineering from Leibniz Universität Hannover led by the Professor and past ISRS President, Dr.-Ing. Christian Heipke.
On 3 Oct. 2023, the Environmental Sensing Observatory (ESO) hosted a research seminar with Prof. Dr.-Ing. Christian Heipke of Leibniz Universität Hannover along with a group of 50 of his colleagues and students from Geomatics Engineering.
Dr. Jan Skaloud, head of ESO, presented a broad overview of EPFL and its research activities to the group followed by a tour of the ESO lab facilities. Presentations on the specific research being conducted at ESO in the domains of autonomous navigation, photogrammetry and image processing were then provided by ESO Ph.D. and Post Doc. students, followed by a round of questions and discussion.

The presentation of PhD students were very much appreciated by the audience, both for their actually and relevance of research as well as for the didactique style of all speakers; so was the past and current technology developed at EPFL put on display when visiting the laboratory research space.
The Leibniz University of Hannover provides a popular international Master program in Geomatics Engineering. The Geomatics institute is led by a renowned figure in geospatial sciences Prof. Dr.-Ing. Christian Heipke who made significant contributions in the fields of digital photogrammetry, remote sensing, image understanding, and their integration with GIS and computer vision. Prof. Heipke is also the past president of International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ISPRS) who held visiting professorships at the University of Ohio and EPFL. It was a pleasure to welcome him again on the campus and we feel honoured by this visit!
