For the fourth time in a row, EPFL students proved their programming prowess at the IEEEXtreme 24-hour programming contest, improving upon their results from last year. IEEEXtreme 8.0, the eighth edition of the 24-hour global non-stop programming competition organized by IEEE, was held on 18 October 2014 this year. The EPFL IEEE Student Branch hosted the local edition on the EPFL campus.
Among the 10 Swiss teams, all from EPFL, the team OnionJam composed by Andrii Maksai, Jakub Tarnawski and Mateusz Lewandowski got the 6th place worldwide and the 2nd place in Europe with more than 1700 teams competing at the same time! Aditionally, two other teams ranked themselves on 14th (FooBarBaz team) and 20th place (HikeToTheStars team), thus achieving three EPFL swiss teams in Top 20! Our heartiest congratulations to them and all the other teams for their enthusiastic participation. Once again, EPFL students showed worldwide the high standards of our institution.
The IEEE Student Branch would like to thank its volunteers Camillo Sefanucci, Evgenia Voulgari, Maneesha Rupakula, Joana Manchado, Hussein Kassir, Hassan Omar, Camilla Baj-Rossi for working tirelessly to organize the logistics of the event and ensure that the teams have everything they need to perform their best. It would also like to thank Dr. Wladyslaw Grabinski and Dr Antonios Bazigos, who proctored the teams.
We are looking forward to an even more enthusiastic participation in the next edition of IEEEXtreme!
