We are happy to announce you the results of IEEExtreme 7.0, the 24-hour world-wide Programming Contest organized by IEEE. EPFL participated with six teams out of which half ranked in Top 100 and one in Top 5.

For the third time consecutively, EPFL participated this year to the programming competition running for 24 hours uninterrupted in the same time, all over the world. Last October, IEEExtreme, already at its 7th edition, brought together 1838 teams from 59 countries where IEEE is active.

Last year, eight teams from EPFL accepted our challenge and enrolled in the competition. Three of them managed to arrive in Top 100 and one of them, Polyprog (lead by Titus Cieslewski), ranked 17th in the world, out of almost 2000 teams participating!

This year again, our teams showed dedication and passion during the game, fact that reflected in their good positions in the final ranking. Infact, almost all of them (4 out of 6) placed themselves in the first 6% of the ranking. Moreover, the team Escape, composed by Cyprien Mangin and Pierre-AlainDupont, both 1st year Master Students in Computer Science, arrived on the 5th place, proving to be among the best programmers of their generation in the world! It is important to mention that for many hours during the competition, they were leaders of the ranking (second or first position). Moreover, even if they finalized on 5th place, the score they accumulated is very close to the first place. Although the final scores are not published, one hour before the end of the contest, they were at a distance of 15-20 points far from the top, which was at around 2460 points.

We congratulate all of them all warmly and wish them even more sucess for the future!

IEEE Student Branch at EPFL would like to thank the volunteers that participated to the organization of this event at EPFL: Eloisa Olivarria, Master Student in Computer Science, and Dr. Francesco Mazzilli, fresh EPFL PhD graduate. The contest was organized locally by Camilla Baj-Rossi and Lucian Barbut, members of the association committee, and by Dr. Wladek Grabinski, proctor of the participating teams and couselor of the Student Branch. Thanks to the financial support from Agepoly and EPFL DAF, the association organized and provided food and drinks for the participants throughout the entire duration of the event.

We are looking forward to organizing IEEExtreme 8.0 next year!
