EPFL Pavilions' Lighten Up! exhibition opens in Winterthur
Guided tour with the co-curators, Marilyne Andersen and Anna Wirz-Justice.
A new EPFL Pavilions exhibition goes on tour! Following the resounding success of Cosmos Archaeology at the Shanghai Astronomy Museum, the exhibition Lighten Up!, originally conceived in 2023 at EPFL Pavilions, will be presented from November 2024 to May 2025 at the Gewerbemuseum Winterthur under the title Lighten Up! In the Rhythm of Day and Night. This new exhibition combines original installations and new perspectives, aimed at a German-speaking Swiss audience.
Through the prism of art, Lighten Up! transforms our circadian, lunar and seasonal rhythms into sound and light landscapes, immersive spaces and virtual experiences. In the face of our constantly changing lifestyles, it highlights the impact of natural light on our well-being and health.
This new exhibition features most of the original works and an extended section on light pollution, developed by the team at the Gewerbemuseum Winterthur. EPFL Pavilions is proud to see this exhibition now open to the Swiss German public, and at an institution renowned for the quality of its exhibitions.
The exhibition was curated by Anna Wirz-Justice, Honorary Professor at the Centre for Chronobiology, Psychiatric Clinic, University of Basel, Marilyne Andersen, Professor at EPFL's Laboratory for Integrated Performance in Design (LIPID), Sarah Kenderdine, director and curator of EPFL Pavilions, and professor at EPFL's Laboratory of Experimental Museology, (eM+) and Dr. Giulia Bini, curator and head of EPFL's Artist-in-Residence programme, and produced by EPFL Pavilions.
After its stop in Winterthur, Lighten Up! will then be presented at the MIT Museum in Boston from September 2025 to April 2026.
