EPFL Middle East opens Master Program

Starting this month, students can apply for a Middle East adventure in education and science.
EPFL’s campus in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has opened registration for Switzerland’s first ever Masters program in a campus abroad. The two-year, 120 credit, Masters in Energy Management and Sustainability (EMAS) program will begin next academic year, September 2011, at the Lausanne campus. After studying one year studying in Lausanne, students will spend the second one in Ras Al Khaimah, UAE, to complete their training with onsite experiments in a desert climate.
“This is an excellent opportunity for students to benefit from EPFL’s world-class research facilities in Lausanne and use this knowledge for real-world applications in a region where sustainability has become paramount,” says EPFL Professor and EMAS program director Maher Kayal.
The program uses a broad-based educational platform - including courses across all of EPFL's programs in Lausanne - to train the new generation of professionals who will tackle critical issues in energy management and sustainability. A new curriculum has been created that provides a unique and interdisciplinary education with a focus on project management and internships. This new generation of problem solvers will be able to understand complex systems such as: smart grids for electricity distribution, water dissemination systems, environmental services, and electronic networks that control energy consumption.
