EPFL occupies the 7th position amongst the 2023 best employers in Switzerland and ranks number 1 in the “Research and education” category.

Jumping from 47th to 7th place in 2023, EPFL made it to the top 10 best employers of Switzerland according to the survey of 15’000 people in Switzerland conducted by PME Magazine in collaboration with the Handelszeitung and Statista R. The analysis takes into account several factors for work attractiveness, such as the working conditions, equipment, work-life balance and career evolution.

EPFL stands out thanks to its employability policy, with an emphasis on sustainability, respect culture and better work-life balance. The initiatives to support employees are recognized and appreciated, such as the implementation of the Trust & Support network mandated to provide initial assistance in situations involving harassment, discrimination or other psychosocial risks, the Mental Health Week and its dedicated survey, or the flexibilization of work, for example with teleworking.

The Future of Work, a project that since 2021 brings together three interdisciplinary working groups (Human, Infrastructure and Technology) to develop a concept of the future of work, remains at the center of reflections to enable EPFL employees in the scientific, administrative, technical or logistical fields to thrive in a work environment that meets their needs and expectations. For Claudia Noth, the Director of Human Resources, it is essential to promote "an inclusive and feedback culture centered on caring, dialogue, responsibility and trust".

EPFL's objectives do not stop there and efforts will continue, particularly with regard to gender parity for positions of responsibility. EPFL will launch an engagement survey in 2023 among employees to further improve working conditions and thus seek to maintain its top ranking in the "Education and Research" category.
