Patrick Aebischer and Jacques Samarut, President of the Ecole Nationale Supérieure (ENS) Lyon, have concluded a cooperation agreement. The partnership will encourage the creation of joint degree programs.

On July 10, 2012, EPFL and ENS Lyon signed a framework agreement that reinforces a long history of cooperation between the two schools. They are thus committed over the long term to establishing a strategic alliance in the areas of education and research.

EPFL and ENS Lyon would like to further develop the mobility of their students and research and teaching staff, in particular by allowing complementary programs at the Master’s level in areas of excellence in each school, and by encouraging the creation of dual-degree and joint degree programs.

The two schools would also like to strengthen their scientific cooperation in order to meet new scientific, economic, societal and environmental challenges. The institutions will facilitate the exchange of researcher-teachers, encourage PhD student mobility (co-advising and joint thesis supervision), create joint research laboratories and mutually open up their international networks.

The two presidents also renewed a specific agreement that associates EPFL with ENS Lyon’s admissions examination, and allows EPFL to recruit students from the major French university preparatory programs.
