On October 18th, representatives of OSA Student Chapters from all over the world were invited to the OSA Student Leadership Conference in San Jose, California (USA). Our chapter was represented by its vice president, Mohamed Sabry who participated to the 2015 Student Chapter Excellence Prize Finalist Panel.

The invitation-only Student Leadership Conference brings together OSA Student Chapter leaders from around the globe to network, present posters and learn about successful chapter management and the popular International OSA Network of Students (IONS). It was in sunny California this year that the representatives followed a program which included group discussions, information sessions, posters presentations and talks by speakers including Dr. Philip Russell, 2015 OSA President and Founding Director of the Max Planck Institute for the Science of Light, and Dr. Hans-Juergen Schmidtke, 2015 OSA Industry Council Chair-Elect and Director of Engineering, Infrastructure Foundation Team at Facebook. Dr. Russell highlighted the efforts put into making the International Year of Light 2015 a worldwide success, as well as the celebration of the upcoming centennial of the Optical Society of America in 2016. The program concluded with a panel discussion by hiring experts from Lawrence Livermore National Lab, Thorlabs, Juniper Networks, and Edmund Optics.

This was also the occasion for our chapter to participate in the 2015 Student Chapter Excellence Prize. The EPFL Photonics Chapter had the opportunity to proudly showcase its agenda of events over the past year to student leaders from around the globe and was honored with a Finalist Prize.
