ENAC Research Day 2024: Where Innovation Meets Conversation
The ICE Lab took part in ENAC Research Day 2024, where eclectic research and innovation projects come together. Kun Lyu and Fariza presented their projects through posters, allowing for detailed discussions and networking.
Kun Lyu, a current postdoctoral researcher at ICE, presented an exciting ongoing study within the SWICE project titled "A Multidomain Approach to Neighbourhood Typology for Urban Environmental Studies". This study introduces a promising data-driven method for classifying neighbourhoods based on their unique characteristics across multiple environmental domains, including thermal conditions, daylight, acoustics, and air quality. The multidomain neighbourhood typology developed through this research has the potential to significantly enhance the effectiveness of urban environmental mitigation strategies and their implementation.
At the ENAC Research Day, Fariza presented her poster, "Toward Personalized Thermal Comfort: A Review of Energy Expenditure Estimation with Wearable Devices," as part of her doctoral research. Her work explores the reasons behind this significant error in energy expenditure (EE) estimation and its broader implications. Did you know that if you're a man tracking calories on your smartwatch, the reading could be off by nearly 24%? Accurate EE estimation is vital for developing personalized thermal comfort systems, enabling efficient heating or cooling tailored to individuals and making comfort smarter, more precise, and energy-efficient.
Stay tuned for a deep dive into their projects — you won’t want to miss it!
