ENAC Diversity Office's movie series continues to inspire
"The Divine Order" sparks lively discussion on women's suffrage and today's realities.
Following Theodore Melfi’s “Hidden Figures”, more than 40 film enthusiasts gathered again at Satellite for the screening of “The Divine Order” - Die göttliche Ordnung (2017) directed by Swiss screenwriter Petra Volpe. Part of the DO's film series on diversity, the film offers fictionalised account of the pivotal fight for women's suffrage in Switzerland back in 1971.
After the screening, Hélène Fueger from the EPFL Equal Opportunities Office moderated a lively and rich discussion that delved into the story, while reflecting about today's reality. "We are still fighting for the same things", "It's a really inspiring film, but I also felt really angry". "They are fighting for political rights because it touches all dimensions." "It's very empowering!" were some of the shared thoughts from the audience. The discussion continued on the intertwining of the private and political spheres and how this reality is still present today. "Where can we really change the structures? 50 years ago there was a change... but 50 years later the progress is still so slow... How many years will we need to change?" concluded an attendee. A few days before a new referendum, everyone agreed that 'voting' is a first meaningful step towards change.
The DO’s film series will continue to foster dialogue and inspire change. The next screening will be announced soon so stay tuned!
