Emil Gallyamov joins as a post-doctoral scientist
Dr Emil Gallyamov joins as a post-doctoral scientist to work on the ENAC Interdisciplinary Cluster grants (2022) “OSGEOCGS" - An Open-Source platform for Geomechanical assessment of CO2 Geological Storage.
We are excited to announce that Dr Emil Gallyamov is starting to work as a post-doctoral scientist on the ENAC Interdisciplinary Cluster grants (2022) “OSGEOCGS" - An Open-Source platform for Geomechanical assessment of CO2 Geological Storage. Emil will work between the Geo-Energy Lab (GEL) and the Computational Solid Mechanics Laboratory (LSMS), with the goal to develop poromechanical capabilities in the Akantu finite element platform. The project also aims at developing workflow for the geomechanical assessment of CO2 geological storage site via 3D numerical simulations.
Emil received Diploma in Civil Engineering from Ufa State Petroleum Technological University in Russia in 2010. After graduation, Emil began his international engineering career in the petroleum service company Schlumberger. From 2010 to 2015, he covered positions of Field Geophysicist (MWD/LWD), Directional Driller and Drilling Engineer with field and office assignments in Russia, Bolivia, Cuba and Mexico.
After obtaining significant industrial experience, Emil decided to invest into his education and started an M.Sc. in Geotechnical Engineering at Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands. During his studies, he got extremely interested in numerical methods and programming. Emil has written his thesis on a numerical model for hydraulic fracturing of a reservoir, which he successfully defended cum laude in 2017.
Later same year, Emil has joined EPFL to pursue a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering under the supervision of Prof. Jean-François Molinari (LSMS). During the following four years, he has been investigating and predicting the mechanical deterioration of concrete due to the alkali-silica reaction by developing and employing analytical and numerical models. He has officially became Doctor in March 2022.
