EESD: New visiting student from University of Melbourne

Serena van Nimwegen is a Master student at the University of Melbourne. She is a visiting student with the Earthquake Engineering and Structural Dynamics Laboratory and will carry out experimental tests on anchors in stone masonry buildings. The inhomogenity of stone masonry in heritage structures renders the prediction of the anchor strength a challenge. Serena takes a new look at the problem by using optical fibres to investigate the strain distribution along the anchor and digital image correlation to investigate the break-out cone.
