EESD: New visiting PhD student from Amirkabir University

Arash Askari is a visiting PhD student from Amirkabir University in Iran. Arash has expertise in numerical modelling of structures when subjected to seismic loading and has implemented a new material model for representing a negative stiffness device in the open-source finite element code OpenSees. At EESD, he will develop an interface for OpenSees that facilitates the modelling of unreinforced masonry structures using a new macro-element that was recently developed and implemented by Francesco Vanin, also a PhD student at EESD.
