EASA SHANZAI 2024 (European Architecture Students Assembly) offers an adventurous, exciting and inspirational summer experience to architecture students.
An "informal info" will take place in EPFL in the room AAC 120, on Thursday 25.04 at 18.30.

EASA is a network for exploring alternative forms of architectural education. The annual gatherings enable participants to explore forms of architectural pedagogy outside of the traditional university context, with students taking the delivery of their education into their own hands.

Each EASA event is based around a central theme. Over the two weeks participants raise questions and investigate ideas around this, creating a wealth of shared knowledge. This shared exploration creates a context for mutualist, non-institutionalized forms of teaching, learning and exchange.

During EASA, students and professionals form a community which maintains itself – we all work, study, rest, cook, eat, clean and live together. Workshops make up the majority of the program, with evening socials and lectures conducted by professionals from divergent spheres of activity.

The 44th edition of EASA will be held in the city of Benidorm, under the theme of "Shanzhai," inspired by South Korean philosopher Byung-Chul Han's concept. "Shanzhai" signifies the re-appropriation of forms or ideas, disregarding their originality, emphasizing functional variation and innovation through collaborative processes. Our goal is to introduce Shanzhai methodologies at EASA, fostering social and cultural collaboration that challenges conventional notions of authenticity and authorship in art and architecture. Drawing inspiration from Denise and Robert's workshop in Las Vegas, where students explored overlooked architectures, EASA Shanzhai 2024 will (re)discover insights from Benidorm, promoting a new perspective on learning and adaptation within diverse contexts.
