Dr Pascal Turberg retires from EPFL and PIXE platform

Dr Pascal Turberg, Executive Director of the PIXE platform since its inauguration in 2018, has retired from EPFL as of end of March and leaves the operational direction of the platform to technical specialist Albert Taureg and the academic direction to Prof. Dimitrios Lignos, Institute Director.

After more than 25 years of research at EPFL, Dr Pascal Turberg retired from EPFL end of March. He joined EPFL in 2000 as Scientific Collaborator first for the GEOLEP laboratory led by Hon. Prof. Parriaux, then the ECOS laboratory led by Hon. Prof. Alexandre Buttler and finally the PERL laboratory led by Prof. Charlotte Grossiord. In 2008, he initiated the project of acquiring a high-resolution X-ray scanner at ENAC and in 2014, Prof. Laloui launched the request to create an X-ray CT scanner platform, which was subsequently accepted. The platform was officially inaugurated in 2018 with at its head, the previous Institute Director, Prof. Michel Bierlaire, as Academic Director, as well as Pascal Turberg as Operational Director. Aside from his work on the PIXE platform, Dr Turberg was Deputy of the Civil Engineering Section from 2012 to 2025. The IIC heartfully thanks him for his contributions to the IIC and wishes him a happy and fulfilling retirement.

Albert Taureg, who joined the PIXE platform in 2021 as Technical Specialist, will take over as Operational Director of the platform, as Prof. Dimitrios Lignos, Institute Director, will continue as Academic Director of the platform.
