Warm congratulations to our colleague Livia Fritz for receiving the Science Award 2021 of the Austrian State of Vorarlberg

In her research and teaching, Livia is interested in participation processes and the interlinkages between knowledge, policy-making and societal change in the field of sustainability. As a social scientist in an interdisciplinary environment, she enjoys exploring how social theories and concepts can support us in making sense of what happens within science-policy systems and identify levers for improving these complex interfaces for sustainability governance.

In her PhD thesis, she developed theoretically and empirically-grounded tools for unravelling the deep-rooted challenges of participation in transdisciplinary sustainability research and for supporting researchers and policy-makers in making their assumptions about pathways to societal change visible and negotiable. To find out more, take a look at her PhD thesis “The politics of participation in transdisciplinary sustainability research: an analysis of knowledge, values and power at the science-society interface”
