Thanks to the SNSF Professorship, Dr Andrea Serino will establish his laboratory at the Department of Clinical Neurosciences in CHUV in 2016.
Dr Andrea Serino is currently Senior Scientist in Prof Blanke laboratory at the Center for Neuroprothetics since 2012. He was previously Assistant Professor at the University of Bologna since 2006, and visiting Scientist at the Institute of Cognitive Neuroscience in UCL (UK) in 2005. He received his PhD in Neuropsychology from the University of Bologna in 2006.
His main research question is how the brain generates the experience of "being here and now" by integrating multisensory information related to the body and to the space around it (Peripersonal Space). To answer these questions, he uses different techniques such as Psychophysics, Neuropsychology, TMS, tDCS, fMRI and Neural network models.
His laboratory will be conducting research on how peripersonnal space is represented in the human brain and how such representation is used to support several cognitive functions and plastically adapts depending on experience and brain damage.
