Devis Tuia elected IEEE Fellow

Professor Devis Tuia has been elected as Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) “for his for contributions to artificial intelligence and machine learning applied to Earth Observation data”.

Devis Tuia is head of the Environmental Computational Science and Earth Observation Laboratory in the School of Architecture, Civil and Environmental Engineering (ENAC) and part of the Alpine and Polar Environmental Research Centre (ALPOLE) at EPFL’s Valais Wallis campus in Sion. He will assume the prestigious title of IEEE Fellow on January 1, 2024. The distinction underscores Devis Tuia’s outstanding contributions to the field of artificial intelligence and machine learning which he successfully applies to Earth Observation data.

According to IEEE, this distinction is granted to selected members who made a significant contribution “to the advancement or application of engineering, science and technology bringing significant value to our society”. The title of IEEE Fellow is one of the institute’s most prestigious honors, awarded to fewer than 0.1% of voting members each year.
