Deepthy Kavungal wins Prizmatix Young Investigator Award

Deepthy Kavungal, a PhD student in the Bionanophotonic Systems Laboratory (BIOS) in the School of Engineering, has received the Prizmatix Young Investigator Award at SPIE Photonics West for her presentation at the symposium on nanoscale imaging for biomedical applications.
Kavungal, who is jointly supervised by BIOS head Hatice Altug and Hilal Lashuel of the Laboratory of Molecular Neurobiology and Neuroproteomics (LMNN), received the award at the conference Photonics West in San Francisco. The event is one of the leading international photonics conferences, organized by the international society for optics and photonics (SPIE).
She was honored for the excellence of her talk, "Deep learning augmented nanoplasmonic infrared sensor for structural protein biomarker-based detection of neurodegenerative diseases", which she presented at the symposium, "Nanoscale Imaging, Sensing, and Actuation for Biomedical Applications".
