Consultation of LEX 4.2.1 and 4.2.2

Article 5, paragraph 4 of LEX 4.2.1 (Rules and Regulations Concerning EPFL Tenure-Track Assistant Professors) and Article 2, paragraph 3 of LEX 4.2.2 (Appointment of associate professor to post of full professor) on the request for letters of recommendation have been modified. These two LEXs were put out for consultation on May 3, 2019.

The EPFL Direction considered the various arguments resulting from this process, deliberated on them and, having heard the critical positions, decided to
- not ask for references from former doctoral students as part of the faculty promotion processes.
- reaffirm the urgent need for the opinions of doctoral programme directors (such as those of section directors, cf. article 10 of LEX 2.5.1) to be carefully examined by faculty CEAs and deans in the context of academic promotions.
- confirm the amendment concerning the indicative vote of the faculty's ordinary professors for promotions from associate to ordinary professor; this item will therefore be included in a minor and upcoming amendment to LEX 4.2.2.
