Cyril Picard has successfully defended his thesis entitled “Automated Design: A Journey Across Modelling, Optimization and Education” on Friday June 25th.

He has developed a web-based design and optimization environment to automate part of the design process of geared actuators that allows to speed up the design process significantly and to simplify the interaction with customers. This tool has also served him to introduce a new suite of realistic benchmark problems for constrained multi-objective optimization. In order to make evolutionary algorithms more reliable and repetitive he also implemented a novel, per constraint based handling methodology. Last but not least, Cyril has also analyzed the impact of computational design on educational aspect. We thank Cyril for his contributions to our lab and wish him all the best for his future endeavors.
