Claudia R. Binder rewarded as member of the Academia Europaea

The non-governmental association Academia Europaea elected Professor Claudia R. Binder as ordinary member. At EPFL, Claudia Binder heads the Laboratory for Human-Environment Relations in Urban Systems (HERUS) since 2016 and is the Dean of the ENAC School since 2020.
Professor Claudia R. Binder has been elected member of the Academia Europaea in the area of a “Human Mobility, Governance, Environment and Space” in recognition of her outstanding achievements as a researcher: “It is an honor to have been elected member of the Academia Europea”, Binder said. “I expect that my research contributes to advising governments in particular in the currently very challenging domain of the energy transition.”
Professor Binder’s research involves analyzing, modelling and assessing the transition of urban systems towards sustainability. She looks in particular at how we can better understand the dynamics of urban metabolism, what characterizes a sustainable city, and what drives and hinders transformation processes. She does so by combining knowledge from social, natural and data science. Her research focuses on food, energy, and sustainable living and transport in urban systems. At EPFL, Claudia Binder heads the Laboratory for Human-Environment Relations in Urban Systems (HERUS) since 2016. She has been elected as Dean of the ENAC School in 2020.
The aim of the Academia Europaea is to promote European research, advise governments and international organizations in scientific matters, and further interdisciplinary and international research. In 2022, 470 international scholars have been elected to membership in Academia Europaea in the four Classes of humanities; social and related sciences; exact sciences and life sciences.
