In October, Atilay achieved the first milestone in his PhD thesis by passing his candidacy exam. Congratulation!
Atılay is developing a low-temperature Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) system for efficient waste heat recovery—an innovation with strong potential to improve energy sustainability and reduce CO₂ emissions. His research focuses on optimizing the expander component of the cycle, targeting the highest possible efficiency and performance.
His thesis is part of the EPFL funded project "Heating Bits" (Solution for Sustainability Initiative S4S), which aims at improving Data Centers (DCs)’ energy efficiency while reducing their carbon footprint. This will be achieved through the development of innovative solutions, their validation at the EPFL EcoCloud DC and scaling them up at industry-grade DCs.
