The “Brainarium” exhibition will take place at the Villa Ciani in Lugano from May 10th to June 15th. The hands-on exhibition, created by Ideatorio at the University of Italian Switzerland/Lugano (Università della Svizzera Italiana) in partnership with the Brain Mind Institute (BMI) at the EPFL offers a unique journey into the body’s most mysterious organ: the brain

Suitable for all ages, the mystery tour will stimulate everyone’s brain. The kids will appreciate the playful and stimulating displays that provide plenty of science facts for curious adults. Along the way we are urged to use our five senses: sight, hearing, smell, taste and touch as well as investigating balance, pain and body position to show us that the world we perceive is a complex picture in our mind. In the brain, smells, images, noises and tastes “dance” around our neurons and are brought together into a centralised mental image of the world around us.

“To understand how a thought is created, we need to think differently,” declares Pierre Magistretti, Professor at the BMI and head of the project. “We are still not sure which direction to take but we understand that the enormous complexity means new approaches and also a lot of work and humility.”

Brainarium is a special opportunity to take a break and marvel at the beauty of our individuality. The goal of this exhibition is not to answer the fundamental questions of neuroscience, but rather to be curious and amazed by the wrinkly flesh in our head that every day, unfailingly, tells us the story of our life.

Open to the public: Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays from 2pm to 6pm, including Ascension and Pentecost weekends.
