The Chalmers University of Technology in Göteborg (Sweden) organized the international BEYOND 2020 conference on 2-4November 2020. On this occasion, the Laboratory of Architecture and Sustainable Technologies (LAST) presented two conference papers concerning its research on the integration of the challenges of the transition to sustainability into architectural and urban projects. The paper entitled "Integrative decision-making strategy for fluvial neighborhoods in transition" and presented by Sara Formery, Martine Laprise, and Emmanuel Rey was also honored with a "Best Paper Award" of the conference.

By 2050, 68% of the world’s population will live in cities, according to the United Nations. 2030 is seen as the deadline for the built environment to contribute to the fulfillment of the UN Sustainable Development Goals. In this perspective, BEYOND 2020 constitutes one of the opportunities to create the missing link between the UN Sustainable Development Goals for 2030 and the built environment. BEYOND 2020 is part of The World Sustainable Built Environment (WSBE) conference series, the world’s largest conference on sustainability in the built environment taking place every three years.

During this international conference, the LAST presented two papers respectively on the results of the research project “Living Peripheries”, developed with the support of the Swiss National Science Foundation (SFNS), and the first methodological investigations of the ongoing research project “Rhodanie urbaine”.
