Attention Assist : Mercedes' system to alert drowsy drivers
Mercedes Benz's engineers have developed a systeme to alert the driver to the first signs of drowsiness. According to the study released this week by the AAA foundation for Traffic Safety, 40 percent of driver admit to having fallen asleep at the wheel.
The Mercedes' system is a combination of a steering sensor and a smart software that uses 70 parameters to etablish the unique driver profile during the first 20 minutes of driving.
Between 80 and 180 km/h, the system is permanently analyzing the driver's trajectories. When the Attention Assist detects an erratic steering correction an audible warning and a "Pause!" message with a coffee cup icon appear in the instrument cluster.
The Attention Assist system is now avabile in the C-classe, CL-classe, E-Classe and S-classe.
