Ata Golparvar, who received his PhD from EPFL's doctoral program in Microsystems and Microelectronics in 2024, has now received a prestigious fellowship from the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) to pursue postdoctoral studies at the Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) in the Netherlands.
Postdoc.Mobility fellowships are for early-career postdoctoral researchers who wish to enhance their scientific profile by working at a research institution abroad, to acquire more in-depth knowledge in view of a future career in Switzerland. Golparvar will use the fellowship to developtransient biophotonic implants in the Biodegradable Technologies group at TU Delft, which is led by EPFL alumna Clémentine Boutry. The three-year fellowship includes the possibility of a one-year return phase to EPFL/ETH.
Golparvar received his PhD in Microsystems and Microelectronics from EPFL in 2024, under the supervision of Sandro Carrara and Assim Boukhayma. His doctoral research focused on the development of spectroscopy-free Raman biosensing wearables.
With this fellowship, he aims to develop a new class of transient molecular implants for wireless, passive, and label-free biosensing during post-operative recovery. These next-generation devices will integrate seamlessly with tissue, minimize immune responses, and safely biodegrade after use, eliminating the need for surgical removal.
