It is with great sorrow that we announce that our colleague and friend Assyr Abdulle passed away on September 1st, after courageously fighting illness for many years.

Assyr was a world-renowned expert in the field of numerical methods for stochastic differential equations and multiscale problems, where he made numerous landmark contributions. He was an energetic, enthusiastic, and passionate colleague, always open to new ideas and engaged in promoting mathematics at EPFL, and an exceptional boss. He played an essential role in creating and shaping a unified Institute of Mathematics at EPFL. Assyr was very much appreciated by students as a teacher and a mentor, as testified by the teaching prizes he has received.

We express our deepest sympathy to his wife Mylène and sons Félix and Marius.

Goodbye Assyr, we will always remember you.
