In a thoroughly documented monograph, Bruno Marchand, professor emeritus at EPFL, and Pauline Schroeter, an EPFL scientist, present the last quarter of the 20th century architecture in County Vaud.

It is a corpus of approximately 350 projects of different types, programmes and functions, to which the authors add the development of public spaces that they describe and comment on with rigour and clarity. Photographs and planimetric documents are a welcome addition to the text. One of the authors' objectives is to make the general public and professionals aware of the interests of this heritage, which is often little known and which, until now, has never been the subject of a synthetic publication.

The table of contents of the book is structured in four main chapters:

- “Building and extending” deals exclusively with new constructions, divided according to a programmatic classification;

- “Restoring, safeguarding” concerns interventions on existing buildings, both ancient and modern;

- “Designing” deals with the question of public spaces and the landscape;

- “Planning” is concerned with the specific development of three major institutional sites: the EPFL in Ecublens, the UNIL at Dorigny and the CHUV at Bugnon.
