The idea to use fast moving walkways for urban mobility wins the top prize at the Y4PT (Youth for Public Transport) Global Transport Hackathon in Dubai.

Dr Riccardo Scarinci (second from the left), postdoc at the Transport and Mobility Laboratory, developed the idea with an international team. The prize includes 20,000 AED (5,000 CHF) to develop the idea further.

The project aims at encouraging people to walk. Fast moving walkways could enable passengers in city centres to travel fast and stress-free by avoiding congestion and enabling eco-friendly safe travels.

The event was organized by the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and the Youth For Public Transport (Y4PT) Foundation, with the support of the International Association of Public Transport (UIPT).
